SCLENDS

SCLENDS, which stands for “South Carolina Library Evergreen Network Delivery System," is a consortium of 20 county libraries and the State Library that has agreed to share resources and circulating materials. SCLENDS libraries share a single catalog, which means that patrons can search for items at any of the libraries as easily as they search for items at their home library. Requesting items is as simple as clicking a button. Within a few days, any available circulating item can be delivered from any SCLENDS library across the state. This benefits libraries by helping them take advantage of economies of scale and share expertise with other libraries around the state.

June 2023 Update
We're Changing Online Systems!

The Union County Library System's online catalog SCLENDS will soon have a NEW look! The process began behind-the-scenes June 12, and will continue through the end of the month.

What does this mean?

Short Answer: Big changes are coming soon to your online experience!

New software will power the SCLENDS catalog. The catalog (sclends.org) is what you use to search for books & other materials, place holds, and manage your account. For library staff, it’s what we use to locate and manage all materials and library accounts.

How will this affect you?

Brace yourself! There may be days, especially June 19 - 25, when your access to the catalog and your library account will be unavailable. We understand that this may be frustrating for you, and honestly, it will be for us too. Though things will look a little different, we think you'll like what you see! More powerful search options, and a soon-to-debut mobile app are just two great things this change will bring to library cardholders.

What to Expect

If you plan to visit our branches the week of June 19 - 24, please anticipate the following:

• The catalog will effectively be down.

• You must present your library card to borrow items (we will be unable to look up your account with ID)

• There will be a borrowing limit of 5 items per library card.

• Holds will not be delivered from other libraries this week (but you can pick up an existing hold at the Carnegie).

• Your “My Account” PIN/password may be different. If you're having trouble logging in, click on "Forgot Password" within the new catalog to receive an email with reset instructions.

Email notices about holds ready for pick up, overdue items, and auto-renewals will be down.

FAQs

Why are you switching systems?

Union County Library System is part of SCLENDS, a statewide consortium, who elected to switch vendors. While the change was a requirement for all SCLENDS libraries, we're excited to be able to offer patrons a more powerful catalog search tool, as well as a soon-to-debut mobile app.

Will my holds transfer?

Yes! Your existing holds will transfer to the new online system.

Will the library be open?

We will be, EXCEPT for Thursday, June 22nd! The usual tools that we use to locate items or place holds may be temporarily unavailable to us, but we’re ready to help.

Can I still use the Digital Library?

Yes! We are not anticipating any interruption to our digital services (Jasmine Digital Library)

Can I still sign up for a library card during this time?

Definitely! We’ll get you into the new system as soon as it’s ready.

I don’t see the new book I want. Are you adding new ones?

During the transition, we can’t add new books, DVDs, or other materials. Rest assured we are accumulating new items and they’ll be added as soon as we get the all-clear.

During our transition, you may experience minor interruptions or slower than normal service. Please know that our excellent staff will be working hard to get things up and running as quickly as possible. We love our library patrons, and want you to have a great experience, every. single. time. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new system.
